CO2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing is a cosmetic surgery procedure performed in our Atlanta office. It improves deep acne scaring and overall skin tone and quality.
Candidates for the fractional laser resurfacing for acne scar removal procedure are people who have a history of persistent acne that has caused acne scaring or “divots” on the face. It is necessary to have moderate to light colored skin for laser resurfacing for acne scaring. Dark skin tones can heal in a hypopigmented (lighter) shade, differing from the skin on the neck and remainder of the body.
How does a fractional laser help remove acne scaring?
The laser is set at a customized and safe wattage and density to ensure the treatment does not go too deep. The laser stimulates new skin that heals from the inside out and promotes collagen growth while diminishing and improving present acne scaring.
Most patients are back to their normal routine within a week, although complete recovery may take 3-4 months. After laser resurfacing, skin is red like a sun burn. Protection from the sun is very important during this recovery period.
