Anyone who has one or more of the following conditions is a potential candidate for cheek implant surgery:
- Cheeks that create a tired or aged look beneath the eyes
- Lost volume in the cheeks due to aging
- Desire for permanently full cheeks after treatment with temporary soft tissue fillers
- Flat or recessed cheeks
- Unattractive cheek shape
- Desire for a more dramatic contour in the mid-face
During cheek implant surgery, a small incision is made inside the mouth along the gum line. A pocket is surgically created over the cheekbone where the implant is precisely positionedand secured into place. The incision is then closed with dissolvable sutures, which do not require removal.
Cheek implantation can be performed alone as a singular surgery, but is more often combined with other cosmetic procedures to produce more comprehensive facial harmony. Cheek augmentation surgery is often combined with eyelid rejuvenation, lower facelift surgery, mid facelift surgery, and/or neck lift surgery.
The initial recovery time for this procedure is 2 weeks. However, each patient will continue to heal over time at his or her own pace. Swelling, bruising, and some discomfort are part of the recovery process and can usually be alleviated with each patient’s individualized recovery plan. Oculus Plastic Surgery is available 24 hours a day to assist patients as needed through the recovery process.
