Harvey “Chip” Cole, III MD, FACS founder and owner of Oculus Plastic Surgery and Specialty Surgery Center, elaborates on potential causes of droopy eyelid and suggests getting a correct diagnosis prior to considering corrective surgery.
ATLANTA, GA, August 10, 2018: Founder and Owner of Oculus Plastic Surgery and Specialty Surgery Center, Harvey “Chip” Cole, III MD, FACS posted a new blog on the Oculus website entitled, “Droopy Eyelids May Be Hereditary Or The First Signs Of Aging.” Dr. Cole emphasizes the importance of correct diagnosis and selecting the correct surgeon for the solution to the problem of droopy eyelids.
Dr. Cole writes, “If you have droopy eyelids, you may not be aware that this is actually a condition that is called either blepharoptosis or dermatochalasis.” He continues, adding first thoughts a potential patient might express “Yikes! Am I going to go blind?” Dr. Cole reassures readers, “No, not at all. It’s just that the border of the upper eyelid falls to a lower position than normal. However,” he adds, “in severe cases, the drooping eyelid can cover all or part of the pupil and interfere with vision. It can also cause the eyelashes to grow inward instead of outward.” In addition, the Dr. says, “In some instances, the field of vision is impaired, causing reading and driving to become more difficult.”
According to Dr. Cole, there could be several reasons for the condition. He writes, “For some people it’s hereditary. For others it’s the gift of aging and gravity!” He adds, “The good news is it can be easily corrected. The better news is that your insurance may cover it!”
