It’s Thanksgiving time—a time for gratitude, family, and turkey. And though we might have plenty to be grateful for, that pesky loose, fatty tissue around the neck is something we could all do without! It’s best to leave those wobbly necks to the turkeys, so here are 5 solutions that will helps tighten up the neck area:

Surgical Solutions. Surgical options are preferred because of the long-lasting corrective effect.

1.Platysmaplasty (aka, neck lift). The platysmaplasty or “neck lift” is performed through a one-inch incision made under the chin. The platysma muscle is tightened and reattached along the neckline. This procedure corrects the loosening effect of the platysma muscle that comes with age.

2.Liposuction. For fatty tissue along the neck, liposuction is used to trim this area. For the platysmaplasty, liposuction will be combined and performed through the same incision.

3.Lower facelift. A platysmaplasty, with or without liposuction, involves only the neck area and does not include the “jowls” or anything above the jawline. In some cases, to achieve the best results, a lower facelift should be performed with the platysmaplasty to smooth the lower face and jaw as well.

Recovery: Most patients are back to their normal routine within 1 to 2 weeks. Swelling, bruising, and some discomfort are part of the recovery process and are alleviated by an individualized recovery plan. Oculus staff is available 24 hours a day to assist patients as needed.

Nonsurgical Solutions. If you are not ready to take the plunge for surgical correction, there are two great alternative options available.

4.Marini Juveneck from Jan Marini ($90)* is a revolutionary product specifically formulated for the delicate neck area. Improve hydration and the appearance of texture while reducing noticeable fine lines, wrinkles and discoloration. Twice daily use is recommended.

This allows for the creation of new tissue, reducing the appearance of skin laxity on the neck. The best part is there is no visible downtime and the treatment is pain free. A series of treatments at 4-6 week intervals may be required to achieve the most desirable results.
