In Your Teens

Looking your best through the teenage years

In the Teenage Years, the Most Common Skincare Question for Teens (and Requests from Teens to Cosmetic Surgeons or Doctors) is How to Get Rid of Acne or Repair Acne Scaring. We Offer Several Options that Help Make Acne Go Away, Treat Acne Professionally, and Then Repair or Get Rid of Acne Scarring Too.

Our goal is to give young people useful, realistic advice about the beauty issues they face, while helping them gain that elusive quality of perspective.

The most pressing skin concern for teenage patients is, of course, acne. The most in-demand cosmetic procedures for this age range are chemical peels and microdermabrasion. We offer a number of additional treatments, both prescription and non-prescription, that can help get rid of acne or keep acne in check. These include oral antibiotics, retinoids, and topical antibacterial treatments like benzoyl peroxide.

“Acne is a nightmare for teenagers; parents should be sensitive to its effect on self-esteem and do everything in their power to help.” – Dr. Cole

Skin Care

Oculus provides a plethora of skin care options, depending on need and budget. We may combine cleansers and counsel you on proper makeup products to use (in fairly benign cases of acne problems or other skincare issues in teens). In more difficult patients, we might go with physician-strength products, skin resurfacing, and dermabrasion. Fillers can also help with scarring. All patients can benefit from facials and light chemical peels by our expert estheticians.

There are a number of simple nutritional interventions that can mitigate the likelihood of breakouts. Together, we can identify foods in your diet that cause inflammation, which has been linked to acne episodes. In addition, certain foods and supplements help keep your skin clear. Our best advice goes something like this: stick with lean protein, lots of veggies and fruit, and avoid processed, packaged foods with long lists of un-pronouncable ingredients.
